Young jobseekers need to be job-ready. They must have the basic technical competencies for the job, as well as non-technical life-skills in order to excel at work. JobStart offers exactly these know-how to its beneficiaries for their entry in the real world of work.
The JobStart Philippines Program is an employment facilitation initiative of the DOLE with funding support from the Government of Canada and technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The program seeks to assist young Filipinos to start their careers and find meaningful paid employment.
In Region IV-A, the program was implemented only in General Trias City, Cavite through their local government and Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
On 27 January 2017, seventy-four (74) JobStarters graduated as they successfully finish their Life Skills Training conducted by Institute for Integrality, Inc. The commencement activity was held at Robinsons Place General Trias, Cavite.
The graduation rites was graced by Mr. Winifred Jarin, City Administrator of General Trias. In his welcome remarks, he said that JobStarters must have a direction on when and how to start their careers. He also emphasizes that JobStart is a big and valuable program for General Trias.
Ms. Mary Joy Marasigan, JobStart Program Officer from Bureau of Local Employment extended her appreciation for the continuous support of the city government of General Trias. According to her, young Filipinos were transformed as they face the real world because of their learnings in the Life Skills Training. She also reminded the JobStarters to be confident at all times and always stay on the ground.
Assistant Secretary for Employment and Policy Support, Mr. Alex V. Avila, inroduced by DOLE IV-A Regional Director Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita, gave an inspirational message to the JobStarters.
He proudly expressed that General Trias City, Cavite is the one and only program implementor of JobStart, and that young jobseekers who benefitted from this program are very lucky. He also asked for the guidance of the parents so that their children will finish the program upto the actual training in the partner industries. He also encourage the partner industries to observe regularization for JobStart graduates for a better future.
He ended his speech by saying: “Ang programang ito ay patungo sa paghubog ng kaunlaran hindi lang ng General Trias, kundi ng buong Pilipinas.”
A special number was presented by the graduates which showcased their talents, dreams and learnings.
Ms. Anne Marie Faye Gloria, focal person for Employment of DOLE Cavite Provincial Office delivered the closing remarks. Her aspiration for the jobstarters is for them to embody the ideals of Life Skills Training and show the world their individualities with gratification. As the ceremony ends, she left a quote from Colin Powell, which says: “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic. It takes sweat, determination and hard work.”
